Northern Highlands (Sapa, Ha Giang, Lao Cai)

February still feels wintry up here, but clear, cold mornings give way to sunnier afternoons that melt frost on terraces; temperatures commonly range from single digits at night to around 10-15°C by day in Sapa town. Farmers start early-season work in valleys, and the Ha Giang loops are quieter though some remote homestays may still be closed. Pack insulating layers and a waterproof shell: sudden showers can happen as the region slides toward spring.

Hanoi & Red River Delta

February sees a slow easing of winter chill; mornings are still cool and fog can linger over the Red River, but occasional sunny breaks return and daytime highs can reach the mid‑teens. Lunar New Year (Tet) often falls in this window and the city fills with markets, closed shops and colourful street decorations - great for cultural experiences but inconvenient if you need services. Waterproof footwear is useful: brief drizzles and soaked sidewalks are common during walks in the Old Quarter.

North Central Coast (Thanh Hóa, Vinh, Hue)

February brings a gradual warming and clearer skies along the coast; wildlife in national parks becomes more active and boat trips on the Truong Son rivers are easier to schedule around calmer weather. Daytime temperatures climb into the high teens and lower 20s°C, and Tet celebrations fill towns like Hue with processions and incense smoke that enhance the cultural experience. If traveling during Tet, plan ahead: many services close and trains/buses sell out quickly.

Central Coast (Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang)

February enjoys warm days and minimal rain, which is excellent for cycling the rice paddies around Hoi An or snorkeling off Cham Island when sea conditions are calm. Daytime temperatures commonly reach the mid‑20s°C and humidity is manageable, a helpful respite before the hotter months. Tet holidays can bring local crowding and higher prices, so book ahead if visiting during Vietnamese New Year.

Central Highlands (Da Lat, Buôn Ma Thuột, Kon Tum)

February enjoys cool, dry weather and is one of the clearest months for trekking and visiting waterfalls; early spring blossoms accentuate the landscape around Da Lat and Buôn Ma Thuột. Temperatures remain mild by day, often in the high teens to low 20s°C, making long hikes and motorbike loops pleasant. Tet festivities bring local colour - book ahead if traveling during the holiday period as popular guesthouses fill quickly.

Southern Vietnam & Mekong Delta (Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Phú Quốc)

February stays dry and hot, with clear skies and warm evenings that are ideal for exploring Saigon’s rooftop bars and the back canals near Can Tho. Temperatures often range from the high 20s to low 30s°C; evenings can be muggy but are comfortable for al fresco dining. This is a popular time for travel so book river cruises and island departures early, especially around Tet when local demand surges.
