Banks & Torres (Northern Vanuatu)

October brings a subtle shift: the seas start to warm and humidity edges up as the wet season approaches, but most days in the Banks and Torres are still comfortable. Afternoon cloud buildups become a little more common, and late-month showers can return, signalling the upcoming rainy months. It’s a fine time for last-minute snorkeling and trekking before wet-season logistics become more uncertain.

Espiritu Santo & Malakula (Large central islands)

October brings a rise in humidity and sporadic afternoon clouds as the wet season approaches, but long stretches of fine weather persist for much of the month. Rivers begin showing higher flow after occasional rain events, enhancing waterfalls and plunges but also making some inland tracks softer. It’s a good shoulder month for travel if you’re tolerant of a few showers and want fewer visitors than the peak dry season.

Efate & Shefa (Port Vila and surrounding islands)

October brings an uptick in humidity and occasional afternoon showers as the islands transition toward summer, though long dry spells still occur at the start of the month. The sea remains mostly calm early on but becomes patchier toward month end - plan open-water trips earlier rather than later. This shoulder month is a good compromise for fewer crowds and lower prices, but carry a light rain jacket.
