Banks & Torres (Northern Vanuatu)
Late-season storms are still possible in April, but there are more frequent breaks between downpours and a little more stable weather toward the month’s end. Village life in the Banks - Sola, Gaua, and Vanua Lava - is lively after the rains, and waterfalls are at their fullest; however, domestic flights may still be cancelled with short notice. Travelers should keep spare days for connections, bring insect protection, and avoid low-lying roads after heavy rain.
Espiritu Santo & Malakula (Large central islands)
The last wet-season thundersqualls often linger into April, but breaks between storms grow longer and the humidity gradually eases. Luganville’s coastal cafes reopen and pools clear enough for snorkeling on calmer days, while inland paths begin to dry, making cave and river excursions safer. Travel is easier toward the second half of the month; still, major logistic links can be unreliable so keep a relaxed itinerary.
Efate & Shefa (Port Vila and surrounding islands)
April’s weather remains unstable but services start to recover between longer dry spells; humidity is still high yet traders and operators prepare for the approaching drier season. Port Vila’s waterfront cafés are open on fine mornings and some overland routes clear, making short coastal drives and sightseeing feasible. Keep flexible ticketing, carry waterproof bags, and check forecasts before heading to the outer islands.
Taféa (Tanna, Aneityum and the southern islands)
April brings intermittent improvement between storms and the landscape becomes saturated and lush, with waterfalls running full on Tanna’s slopes. Boat services gradually resume more dependably toward month’s end and crater access to Yasur becomes safer when wind and rain decrease. Travellers should still expect humidity and pack waterproofs, but this month can offer dramatic scenic conditions if you’re weather-flexible.
