How to Get to Tsz Wan Shan#
Tsz Wan Shan sits on the hills of Wong Tai Sin District and is best reached from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) via Airport Express plus MTR or by direct airport bus to Kowloon and onward local bus. The area relies more on buses and minibuses than on-direct MTR access.
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG): The primary gateway for Tsz Wan Shan. Use the Airport Express to Kowloon Station (about 24 minutes; adult single around HK$115) then transfer to the MTR Kwun Tong Line or take a taxi. Cheaper direct bus options such as Cityflyer A21 take around 45-60 minutes and cost roughly HK$33.
Shenzhen Bao’an International (SZX): Some travellers cross from Shenzhen; allow extra time for border crossing and transfer into Kowloon before using MTR/bus to reach Tsz Wan Shan.
Train (MTR): Tsz Wan Shan does not have its own MTR station; use Wong Tai Sin or Diamond Hill stations (Kwun Tong and Tuen Ma lines) and then a short bus or walk to reach the estate. MTR fares within Kowloon are usually HK$4-12.
Bus / Minibus: A dense network of KMB routes and green minibuses serve the steep residential streets of Tsz Wan Shan, providing the main public-access options. Fares are typically in the HK$4-12 range depending on route and distance; minibuses may charge slightly more.
How to Get Around Tsz Wan Shan#
Tsz Wan Shan is best served by a combination of MTR (to nearby stations) plus buses and minibuses for the final leg; taxis are convenient but more costly. Expect hills and many pedestrian stairways once you arrive.
- MTR (via Wong Tai Sin / Diamond Hill) (HK$4-12) - Use Wong Tai Sin or Diamond Hill stations and transfer to a short bus or walk link to Tsz Wan Shan. The MTR is fast and reliable for getting into Kowloon, but you will usually need a short onward surface transfer to reach the estate itself.
- Franchised Buses / KMB (HK$4-12) - KMB runs frequent routes up and around Tsz Wan Shan, linking to shopping centres and MTR stations. Buses are cost-effective and run often; expect typical fares of HK$4-12 depending on distance.
- Green Minibuses (HK$6-12) - Green minibuses provide quick, direct connections on local streets where larger buses can’t go; they are commonly used by residents for short hops. Bring exact change on some routes and be prepared for standing-room travel at peak times.
- Taxi / Rideshare (HK$30-300) - Taxis are plentiful for door-to-door travel and useful when carrying luggage or traveling late. Short trips within Kowloon are inexpensive; expect higher fares from the airport (roughly HK$200-300).
- Stairways & Local Routes (walking-focused) - Tsz Wan Shan has many stairways and pedestrian links between blocks; walking is essential for short local journeys and accessing some viewpoints and shops. Comfortable shoes are recommended for the hilly terrain.
- Walking - Neighborhood streets, markets and small parks are best explored on foot - walking is often faster than waiting for a bus for short distances. The area is densely built and pedestrian-friendly at the street level.
