Thandwe Travel Guide
City Coastal town in Rakhine State, gateway to Ngapali Beach
A Rakhine fishing town that serves as Ngapali’s gateway: fresh crab and prawn stalls, longboats hauled on black sand, and a low-slung colonial center before you head to quiet beaches offshore.
Why Visit Thandwe? #
This coastal town is best known as the gateway to Ngapali Beach and for its lively local market where fresh seafood and Rakhine specialties are traded. Travelers come for the nearby palm‑fringed sands and quieter fishing villages, but also to sample regional dishes such as grilled seafood with ngapi and coconut‑based curries. Small pagodas and market streets provide a glimpse into Rakhine culture that contrasts with Myanmar’s larger tourist hubs.
