Exploring Teuk Chhou Zoo#
Founded in the 1950s during Kampot’s more prosperous years, the zoo has fallen into much the same disrepair as the town’s colonial-era villas. Some 56 animals are kept here in a sparsely vegetated compound that offers them little shade from the heat, and many visitors come away troubled by the conditions rather than charmed by the wildlife.
The zoo sits alongside the road to Tek Chhou Falls, a short distance from Bokor National Park, so it is easily paired with a trip to the cascades. Entry is modest, and daylight hours are the only time to visit.
