Northern Circuit (Arusha, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Kilimanjaro)

June’s clear skies and cool mornings mark the start of peak safari season: northern Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire are excellent for game viewing as animals congregate around watering holes. Kilimanjaro climbing conditions are at their best with drier high altitude weather between storms; summit attempts are common so book guides in advance. Trade winds along the eastern escarpment make evenings crisp in Arusha. Expect higher prices and well-booked camps, especially in July-August.

Zanzibar & the East Coast (Stone Town, Nungwi, Mafia, Dar es Salaam)

June marks the start of a cooler, drier stretch influenced by southeast trade winds - the sea calms and swimming, snorkeling and dhow trips are very pleasant. Nungwi is busy with tourists seeking clear water and lively beachlife; accommodation books up for the mid-year season. Nights along the coast are breezy and more comfortable; pack a light windbreaker for evening dhow cruises. Expect the best sea conditions through August.

Lake Victoria & Northwest (Mwanza, Bukoba, Kagera)

June brings cooler mornings and drier days that make boat trips across Lake Victoria more comfortable and safer. Mwanza’s waterfront is pleasant for walking, and island visits to Ukerewe are easier since weather is more predictable. This is a favorable month for longer drives into Kagera and national parks, with road conditions much improved. Expect fewer mosquitoes than in the rainy months but still pack a light jacket for breezy mornings.

Southern & Eastern Parks (Nyerere/Selous, Ruaha, Mikumi)

June marks a clear shift into the dry season: Selous and Ruaha offer excellent game viewing as animals concentrate around permanent water, and game drives are straightforward. Nights can be cool and daytime temperatures pleasant, making walking safaris and longer drives comfortable. This is a popular season for wildlife photography; book early for preferential airstrips and camps. Pack warm layers for mornings and evenings after early starts on safari.

Southern Highlands (Mbeya, Iringa, Rungwe, Lake Nyasa/Malawi border)

June brings cool, crisp conditions with very little rain; mornings can have a sharp chill in places like Iringa and Mbeya, while daytime hiking is comfortable. This dry spell is excellent for long alpine treks and exploring crater lakes near Rungwe. Accommodation is more available and local festivals or markets are active. Pack a warm jacket for mornings and evenings at higher elevations.

Central Plateau & Dodoma Region (Dodoma, Singida, Tabora)

June delivers cooler mornings and a pronounced dry spell across Dodoma and the central plateau - a pleasant time for overland travel and vineyard visits. The air clears and daytime temperatures are comfortable for sightseeing; rural tracks firm up and 2WD travel is more reliable. This is a favorable month for joining longer self-drive routes across central Tanzania. Pack a hat and light layers for cooler dawns.
