Shwenyaung (Nyaung Shwe) is the gateway town for Inle Lake - most visitors arrive via a short domestic flight into Heho or by long‑distance bus/train to Shwenyaung. Airport transfers and hotel pickups are common and reliable.

By Air

Heho Airport (HEH): Heho is the main airport for Inle Lake and Nyaung Shwe (Shwenyaung). From Heho airport it’s a 30-60 minute drive to Nyaung Shwe/Shwenyaung - taxis or hotel transfers cost roughly MMK 5,000-15,000 (≈US$3-10) depending on vehicle and season.

Yangon International Airport (RGN): International arrivals generally transit through Yangon and then take a domestic flight to Heho or a long‑distance bus. Domestic flights Yangon→Heho are frequent and take about 1 hour.

By Train & Bus

Train: Shwenyaung has a railway station on the country’s north‑south route and there are train services to/from Yangon and other cities; however trains are slow and schedules limited - journeys can take well over a day depending on service.

Bus: Overnight and daytime buses and minibuses run from Yangon and Mandalay to Nyaung Shwe/Shwenyaung; travel times from Yangon are typically 10-14 hours and fares commonly range from about US$10-25 depending on bus class.

How to Get Around Shwenyaung #

Shwenyaung (Nyaung Shwe area) is small and quite walkable around the town center; many guesthouses, restaurants and the main jetty are within easy reach. Boats are the primary transport for visiting Inle Lake villages - longboats depart from the riverside jetty and are usually hired by the hour or day.
