Sen Monorom Waterfall lies much closer to Sen Monorom town than the better-known Bou Sra Waterfall, making it a quick and easy side trip from guesthouses in the town centre. The falls themselves are picturesque and well worth the walk, though facilities are non-existent and a hydroelectric plant upriver can jar with the idea of a quiet retreat into nature.

There are three tiers to the waterfall, but the second stage, where the water drops more than 6 metres, is the one worth seeing. Only about 5 km from the town centre, it is a popular meeting place for locals and gets busiest around noon at weekends, when families come out to picnic.

A trail runs to the falls from the edge of town, easy to follow thanks to its bright red soil but inconsistently signposted, so it is easy to lose your way. Hiring a guide in the town centre is cheap and takes the guesswork out of the walk.

Sen Monorom Waterfall is located near Sen Monorom town, the capital of Mondulkiri province in eastern Cambodia. Sen Monorom is accessible from other Cambodian towns by road; visitors normally reach the town by bus or private vehicle from larger centres and then take a short local drive to nearby waterfalls and natural attractions using motorbike, taxi or organized local tours.

• For the fullest waterfall flow visit during or shortly after the rainy season, but factor in wet, sometimes rough roads and arrange a 4x4 or a local driver in Sen Monorom town for the trip.
• Base yourself in Sen Monorom and hire local guides or drivers who know the access tracks and can combine the waterfall with visits to Bunong villages and nearby viewpoints.
• Arrive early in the day to avoid local weekend crowds and to increase chances of seeing wildlife near the falls; ask your driver about short walking paths from the parking area that lead to quieter viewpoints.
