On a day trip you are collected from your lodging in Sen Monorom in the morning and driven a few kilometres out of town to meet the team and watch the herd forage in the forest.

Volunteers can turn their hand to almost anything, from servicing a truck to helping build a house; with a willing attitude and open ears, even those with no experience are guided into pitching in. Meals are cooked on site and built around fresh fruit and vegetables, with vegan options, and there are hammocks and a few small cabins for those who stay on. The highlight, of course, is spending time around the elephants and letting them simply be elephants.

Most visitors travel to Sen Monorom by bus or private car from Phnom Penh and then use the project’s arranged pickup; the final approach is along unsealed rural tracks where a 4x4 is usually needed. Travel time from Sen Monorom to the project is typically under an hour (exact times vary by road conditions), so book the project’s transfer or a local 4x4/tuk‑truck from town.
