How to Get to Parcelas Nuevas#

Parcelas Nuevas in Cidra is an inland community in central Puerto Rico, reached most simply by car from San Juan. Use SJU for air connections and continue by road into the central mountain region.

By Air

Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU): San Juan is the main international hub; from SJU to Parcelas Nuevas (Cidra area) expect roughly 45-75 minutes by car depending on traffic, and taxi or rideshare fares commonly fall in the USD 40-80 range.

Mercedita Airport, Ponce (PSE): PSE is farther but can be useful for southern destinations; transfers to Cidra are longer (about 1-1.5 hours) so most visitors use SJU for this inland town.

By Train & Bus

Train: Puerto Rico lacks intercity passenger rail; the only metro rail is Tren Urbano in the San Juan area and does not reach Cidra.

Bus: Intercity bus routes and private coaches run between San Juan and many inland towns; however, last-mile connections to small municipios like Cidra often rely on local taxis or minibuses. Expect affordable fares but variable schedules.

How to Get Around Parcelas Nuevas#

Central-mountain communities are best reached by car. Public coaches can cover main corridors but expect last-mile gaps that require taxis or local shuttles; driving gives the most flexibility.

  • Car rental (USD 30-70/day) - Rent a car to reach Cidra and other central-mountain towns; winding roads and narrow lanes are common, so choose a comfortable vehicle. Daily rates start around USD 30 and increase with vehicle size. A car gives you freedom to visit viewpoints and rural attractions on your own schedule.
  • Taxi / Rideshare (USD 20-90) - Taxis and rideshares can bring you from San Juan or nearby cities to Cidra, but fares for longer inland transfers can add up (USD 40-90). Rideshare availability is lower than in metro San Juan, so pre-book if possible.
  • Intercity bus / Minibus (USD 1-10) - Intercity buses and private coaches serve routes into central Puerto Rico; they are cheap and effective to major towns but often require a local taxi or minibus for the final short leg into smaller barrios. Expect low fares but limited schedules for rural stops.
  • Local taxi / Colectivo (USD 1-20) - Local taxis and colectivos handle short local journeys and last-mile connections in and around Cidra. They are convenient for short trips but may not accept cards, so carry cash for fares.
  • Hiking / Local trails (USD 0-10) - Cidra and nearby areas have walking and hiking options; if you enjoy outdoors time, allocate a few hours for trails and lookout points. Wear good footwear and bring water for humid conditions.
  • Walking - Parcelas Nuevas and Cidra town centers are compact and easy to explore on foot. Note that sidewalks can be intermittent on rural roads and lighting limited after dark.
