How to Get to Olimpo
Olimpo (Guayama area) is usually reached via San Juan (SJU) or Ponce (PSE) airports with a road transfer; Mercedita in Ponce is the closest commercial airport. There's no rail - driving or taxi is the most practical ground option.
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU): The usual arrival airport for southern Puerto Rico; Guayama (Olimpo area) is about 50-70 minutes’ drive from SJU depending on route (PR-52/PR-3). A rental car or taxi/shuttle from San Juan is practical.
Mercedita Airport (PSE), Ponce: Ponce’s Mercedita Airport is closer to Guayama and often used for regional flights; driving from PSE to Guayama typically takes about 25-35 minutes.
Train: No intercity rail serves Guayama.
Bus: Intercity buses and shared taxis connect Guayama with Ponce and other southern towns; services vary by schedule and are cheaper than private transfers. For direct timing and comfort, opt for a car or pre-booked transfer.

Olimpo (Guayama barrio-pueblo) is a small town area and easily walkable for routine errands and meals. To travel beyond Guayama, a car is the most reliable option; regional buses exist but services can be infrequent. Taxis operate in Guayama but expect higher fares for longer journeys. If you plan to explore surrounding towns or coastal sites, renting a car provides the most convenience and saves time.
