How to Get to Paparā
Paparā is on Tahiti's south coast and is best reached via Faa'a International Airport (PPT) in Papeete. From PPT you can take a taxi, shuttle or local bus to reach the town; inter-island connections are by regional flights or ferries.
Faa’a International Airport (PPT): The main gateway to Tahiti and the Society Islands; most international flights arrive here in Papeete. From PPT you can reach Paparā by taxi (approx. 3,500-5,500 XPF, 30-50 minutes) or by local bus services that run along the west coast (cheaper, expect 30-60 minutes depending on route - fares vary, typically a few hundred XPF).
Moorea (MOZ) / Raiatea (RFP) / Huahine (HUH): If you arrive via another island by regional flight or ferry, you’ll transfer at Faa’a or by inter-island boat. Ferries and short flights connect the islands; transfer times depend on schedules (ferries 30-90 minutes, flights ~15-45 minutes) and prices vary by carrier.
Train: There are no rail services on Tahiti.
Bus: Local buses (called ‘Le Truck’ or scheduled island buses) operate between Papeete and coastal communes including Paparā; journey times from Papeete are roughly 40-70 minutes depending on stops. Buses are the most economical option - fares are modest (a few hundred XPF) but schedules can be infrequent, so check times in advance.
How to Get Around Paparā #
Paparā is a small coastal commune on Tahiti; the village centre is easily walkable for short errands and beach access. For longer trips you’ll rely on rental cars, taxis or scooters - public bus service is limited and infrequent.
