How to Get to Pīraʻe
Pīraʻe is effectively a suburb of Papeʻete on Tahiti, very close to Faaʻa International Airport (PPT). Most visitors arrive at PPT and reach Pīraʻe by taxi, airport shuttle or local bus in under half an hour.
Faaʻa International Airport (PPT): Faaʻa (PPT) is the international airport serving Tahiti and Papeʻete. Pīraʻe (Pirae) is immediately adjacent to Papeʻete - from the airport expect a 10-25 minute taxi ride to Pīraʻe town depending on traffic, or use local public buses. Air Tahiti also operates inter‑island flights from PPT to other Society Islands.
Inter‑island seaplanes / local flights: For travel between islands in French Polynesia you’ll use Air Tahiti’s domestic network (seaplanes and small aircraft) from PPT; flights connect to many of the Windward and Leeward Islands.
Train: There is no rail in French Polynesia; trains are not used.
Bus / local transport: Pīraʻe and Papeʻete are served by public buses and shared vans. Local buses are inexpensive and cover main corridors; taxis are plentiful but more expensive. For inter‑island travel you use ferries or flights rather than buses.
How to Get Around Pīraʻe #
