How to Get to Nahuizalco
Nahuizalco (Sonsonate Department) is commonly reached from San Salvador's main airport (SAL) by intercity bus or private transfer to Sonsonate, then a short local bus or taxi to the town. Buses are the budget option; private shuttles save time.
Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport (SAL): San Salvador’s international airport is the main gateway for Nahuizalco. From SAL you can take an intercity shuttle or bus toward Sonsonate (approx. 1.5-2.5 hours) and then local transport to Nahuizalco (see bus card). Private transfers are faster but more expensive.
Ilopango (SAL alternative): Ilopango Airport handles some regional traffic but SAL is the main international option for most visitors heading to Sonsonate Department.
Train: El Salvador does not have an operational national passenger rail service for travellers.
Bus: Intercity buses run from San Salvador to Sonsonate; from the Sonsonate terminal you can catch local “chicken buses” or minibuses to Nahuizalco (short rides, typically under an hour). Intercity bus fares are inexpensive and the final local leg is very cheap, but services can be crowded at peak times.
