How to Get to Sonzacate
Sonzacate is accessed primarily by road from San Salvador's airport or bus terminals; there is no passenger rail service. Intercity buses are the most common and economical option for reaching the town from the capital.
Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport (SAL): The main international airport for El Salvador is in San Salvador (SAL/Comalapa). From the airport you can take a shuttle or taxi to San Salvador’s Terminal de Occidente, then an intercity bus to Sonzacate; total travel time to Sonzacate is typically about 1.5-2.0 hours depending on connections. Airport taxis/shuttles to Sonzacate are more direct and typically cost substantially more than the bus.
Regional airports: There are no major international airports closer to Sonzacate; most international travellers use SAL and continue by road transport to Sonsonate/Sonzacate.
Train: El Salvador currently has no regular passenger rail network, so trains aren’t an option for reaching Sonzacate.
Bus: Intercity buses from San Salvador (departing from Terminal de Occidente or other bus stations) run to Sonsonate and nearby towns; from Sonsonate it is a short local bus or taxi ride to Sonzacate.
