Baja California Peninsula (Baja California & Baja California Sur)

October starts the gradual return to drier conditions; the risk of storms decreases but isn’t gone until November. Cooler, more comfortable evenings come back by late month, and fishermen and divers report improved conditions as swell patterns settle. Whale season is still months away, but autumn light is excellent for photography along rocky coasts and desert landscapes; bring a windbreaker for cooler nights.

Pacific Coast & Sierra Madre Occidental (Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Oaxaca coast)

November brings drier, sunnier weather back to most Pacific coastal destinations and foothills; Puerto Vallarta and the Oaxaca coast enjoy warm, comfortable days and cooler evenings inland. The Sierra Madre trails dry out, making hiking and waterfall visits more reliable though flows are reduced compared with the wet season - plan for dusty tracks. This is the start of peak tourist season, so book popular boat trips and beachfront rooms ahead.

Central Highlands & Mexico City Plateau (Mexico City, Guadalajara, Puebla, Guanajuato)

September often features warm days and dramatic thunderstorms, with the added note that the country’s Independence Day (mid-September) fills city centers with festivities - expect crowds, fireworks and street closures in places like Mexico City and Guanajuato. Rainfall remains frequent but usually concentrated in late afternoons and evenings, so daytime sightseeing is still practical. Bring a daypack with rain protection and be ready for wet streets during parades and nighttime events.

Gulf Coast & Veracruz (Veracruz, Tampico, the Totonac and Olmeca coasts)

November is marked by a clearer, drier pattern and comfortable temperatures along the coast; Veracruz city and nearby archaeological sites are pleasant for day trips. The nortes become more frequent and can stir up the Gulf, making sea conditions rough for short periods; time boat trips carefully. This is a quieter shoulder season for tourism, so hotel rates often drop outside local festival dates.

Yucatán Peninsula & Quintana Roo (Mérida, Cancún, Tulum, Isla Holbox)

November returns to that pleasantly dry, warm pattern that makes the Yucatán attractive for winter sun: beaches clear, cenotes are accessible and humidity drops noticeably. The sea stabilizes and visibility for diving improves, while whale sharks have left and the island spots are less crowded. Bring light clothing and insect repellent for dusk, and book accommodations early if you want to coincide with Día de los Muertos events or early holiday travel.

Southern Highlands & Chiapas (Oaxaca highlands, San Cristóbal, Sumidero, El Triunfo)

November returns mostly dry, cool mornings and pleasantly warm afternoons - San Cristóbal and Oaxaca city are excellent for exploring with clear skies and manageable temperatures. Cultural life ramps up for Dia de los Muertos preparations in many highland towns, making late October-early November culturally rich and busy. Pack a warm layer for pre-dawn and evening hours and expect crisp, clear air for mountain views.
