Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX): Chiang Mai’s airport is the nearest major airport. From CNX to Mae Waen (in Chiang Mai province) the drive typically takes around 30-90 minutes depending on the exact village location and traffic. Options include metered taxi or prebooked car; airport taxis to locations outside central Chiang Mai often cost THB 400-1,200 depending on distance and negotiation.
(No other major nearby airports): There are no larger international airports closer than Chiang Mai for reaching Mae Waen; if you arrive via Bangkok you’ll connect to Chiang Mai by domestic flight (BKK→CNX) or overnight train.
