How to Get to Chai Prakan
Chai Prakan is a district north of Chiang Mai city in northern Thailand. Most visitors arrive via Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) or by train to Chiang Mai and then use buses or minivans from Chiang Mai's bus terminals for the 2-3 hour onward trip.
Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX): The main airport for the province. From CNX to Chai Prakan you can take a taxi (about 1.5-2 hours) or use ground transport via Chiang Mai city - taxis typically cost around THB 1,000-1,800 depending on negotiation and exact drop‑off.
Other airports: There are no closer international airports; arrivals from Bangkok or elsewhere normally fly into CNX and continue by road to Chai Prakan.
Train: Trains terminate at Chiang Mai station; there is no direct train to Chai Prakan. From Chiang Mai station you must switch to bus or minivan services.
Bus / Minivan: Minivans and local buses leave from Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Terminal toward areas north (Chiang Dao/Fang) and stop at or near Chai Prakan. Journey times from Chiang Mai are typically 2-3 hours and fares are commonly THB 100-200 depending on service. Local songthaews serve shorter hops and village connections.
How to Get Around Chai Prakan #
Chai Prakan is a provincial town with local transport options including songthaews, motorbike taxis and regional buses to Chiang Mai and neighbouring districts. Central areas are walkable; for exploring surrounding hills a rented motorbike or car is common. Carry cash and agree fares beforehand with motorcycle taxis.
