How to Get to Mae Chan
Mae Chan (Chiang Rai province) is best reached by road from Chiang Rai city and its airport; there is no direct rail service. Regular minivans and local buses make the short trip north from Chiang Rai.
Chiang Rai International Airport / Mae Fah Luang (CEI): The nearest airport for Mae Chan district. Taxis or shared minivans from Chiang Rai city to Mae Chan take roughly 40-70 minutes depending on exact location and traffic; expect fares around 200-500 THB for taxis and lower for shared vans.
Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX): A busier alternative with more international connections; from Chiang Mai the road journey to Mae Chan is long (several hours) and usually done by bus or private transfer rather than direct flight connections.
Train: Northern Thailand’s rail terminus is in Chiang Mai; there is no direct rail line to Mae Chan. Travelers typically use road transport from Chiang Rai or Chiang Mai.
