How to Get to Chiang Kham
Chiang Kham is best accessed by road from Chiang Rai or Phayao; Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai Airport (CEI) is the most convenient air gateway. Local minivans and songthaews cover short-distance travel within the district.
Chiang Rai (Mae Fah Luang) International Airport (CEI): Chiang Kham is in Phayao province but close enough to use Chiang Rai’s airport as a gateway; road transfers from Chiang Rai to Chiang Kham take roughly 1-1.5 hours by car or minivan. Taxis and scheduled minivans are the usual onward options.
Chiang Mai (CNX): Chiang Mai can be used as an alternative hub with a longer overland transfer (2-3+ hours) by bus or private car depending on connections.
Train: There is no direct long‑distance rail service to Chiang Kham; the nearest railheads are in larger northern cities requiring road transfers.
Bus / minivan: Daily minivans and buses link Chiang Rai, Phayao and surrounding towns to Chiang Kham. These services are typically inexpensive and take about 1-2 hours depending on origin and stops; local songthaews handle short hops within the district.
How to Get Around Chiang Kham #
Chiang Kham is a small northern town where you can walk much of the centre, especially around the market and riverfront. For trips to nearby viewpoints or provincial centres use local buses, songthaews and motorbike taxis. If you want to explore rural areas, arrange private transport or hire a motorbike for flexibility; services can be infrequent outside market days.
