How to Get to Luyando
Luyando (Aguada area) is most practically reached via Rafael Hernández Airport (BQN) in Aguadilla for short transfers; San Juan (SJU) is an alternative but farther away. Renting a car or arranging a local taxi/transfer at BQN gives the most reliable access to Luyando.
Rafael Hernández Airport, Aguadilla (BQN): The main airport for Puerto Rico’s west coast. From BQN you can drive to Aguada and nearby Luyando: taxi or rideshare trips typically cost around USD 20-35 and take about 15-30 minutes to nearby west-coast towns. Car rentals are available at BQN for flexible travel across the west.
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU): SJU in San Juan is the island’s principal airport and an alternative, especially if you have onward flights. Driving from SJU to Aguada/Luyando will take longer (roughly 1-1.5+ hours depending on traffic); taxis or rideshares for that distance are significantly more expensive than flying into BQN or renting a car locally.
Train: There is no intercity passenger rail on Puerto Rico; Tren Urbano runs only in the San Juan metro area and does not serve Aguada.
Bus: Intercity buses and shared taxis (publicos) run between larger towns and hubs; routes to Aguada often start from Arecibo or Mayagüez terminals. Bus travel is inexpensive but may require transfers and longer travel times; check local schedules at regional bus stations or ask at tourist/info desks for current routes.
How to Get Around Luyando #
Luyando is a compact community where short errands are typically done on foot. Narrow streets and local spots make walking convenient around the center. To reach other parts of Aguada or farther afield, most visitors use a car.
