How to Get to La Playa#

La Playa is a locality in the Añasco area on Puerto Rico’s west coast. Access is primarily by road from San Juan (SJU) or from Rafael Hernández (BQN) with a car or bus completing the journey.

By Air

Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU): The main international airport for Puerto Rico; from SJU Playa-La Playa (Añasco/Añasco barrio-pueblo area) is a drive of roughly 1-1.5 hours depending on which part of the west coast you are heading to. Car rental and taxis are the typical options.

Rafael Hernández International Airport (BQN): Closer to many west-coast towns, BQN is convenient when available; travel times to Añasco-area locations vary and a rental car is the most practical option for final transport.

By Train & Bus

Train: Puerto Rico has no intercity passenger rail network serving Añasco.

Bus: Intercity buses and guaguas connect the west coast with San Juan and other towns; expect flexible schedules and trip times often over an hour from San Juan depending on route and stops.

How to Get Around La Playa#

La Playa (Añasco) is easiest reached by car from either San Juan or Aguadilla; buses and shared vans provide a low-cost but slower alternative. For local sightseeing a car or bike is most convenient.

  • Car rental (USD 30-70/day) - Rent a car at the airport for the most convenient access to west-coast beaches and small towns around Añasco. Roads are generally in good condition but watch for narrow local streets in village centers.
  • Taxi (USD 20-90) - Taxis can be used for airport transfers or short local hops but expect higher fares for inter-city travel; confirm the price beforehand. Useful for travelers without a hire car.
  • Public bus / guagua (USD 1-6) - Shared vans and guaguas operate between western towns and San Juan; they are very economical but slower due to multiple stops and irregular schedules. Good for budget travellers with flexible timing.
  • Rideshare (Uber) (USD 8-50) - Rideshare availability in west-coast towns can be limited; when drivers are available the app gives price estimates and is convenient for short inter-town trips.
  • Biking - Local coastal roads are popular for cycling but can be exposed to wind and traffic. Best for short leisure rides rather than long-distance travel between towns.
  • Walking - Village centers are walkable for shopping and dining; beaches and immediate attractions are often reachable on foot. Long-distance walking between towns is not practical.
