How to Get to Lixouri
Lixouri on Kefalonia is reached by domestic flight into Kefalonia (EFL) or by ferry from the mainland and other islands. The quickest island‑internal route is via Argostoli and the short ferry crossing to Lixouri.
Kefalonia International Airport - Anna Pollatou (EFL): The island’s airport; from EFL you can drive or take a taxi to Lixouri (about 35-50 minutes depending on route), or go via Argostoli and the short car ferry; taxis typically cost €30-50 and car hire is available at the airport.
Zakynthos / Athens: If you arrive via other islands or Athens you will use ferries and connecting flights; travel times vary greatly and usually involve at least one ferry leg or a domestic flight into Kefalonia.
Train: There is no train service on Kefalonia.
Bus / Ferry: The island’s KTEL bus network links Kefalonia towns. From Argostoli a short vehicle or passenger ferry crosses to Lixouri (10-15 minutes). Regular regional KTEL buses connect the airport to Argostoli (then transfer to the ferry or road route to Lixouri).
How to Get Around Lixouri #
Lixouri’s centre is compact and pleasant to explore on foot; the seafront, shops and tavernas are close together. For beaches and rural coves a scooter or car is handy. KTEL buses link Lixouri to other parts of Kefalonia, including Argostoli; timetables vary seasonally. Taxis are available but limited outside high season, so plan accordingly.
