Mu Ko Lanta National Park is a coastal and marine protected area at the southern portion of the Koh Lanta archipelago in Krabi Province, Thailand. The park preserves beaches, mangroves and coral reefs and is managed for conservation and low-impact tourism.
Highlights include sandy bays, snorkeling sites, coastal viewpoints and a headland with a lighthouse that provides panoramic views of the Andaman Sea and nearby islets. The park’s beaches are also important for sea turtle nesting during the season.
Visitor facilities are concentrated near Saladan and other main arrival points on Koh Lanta Yai, with boat trips available to nearby islands and snorkeling sites. Management focuses on protecting nesting beaches and coral habitat while permitting regulated visitor use.
- Turtle nesting habitats: The park protects coastal and nearshore marine habitats at the southern end of Koh Lanta Yai and is a site where sea turtles nest on some beaches.
- Access point: Saladan Pier on Koh Lanta Yai is the common access point for visitors arriving by ferry and for tours to surrounding islands.
What to See #
- Park headland and lighthouse: A headland at the southern tip of the park with a small lighthouse and coastal viewpoints that overlook the Andaman Sea and nearby islets.
How to Get to Mu Ko Lanta National Park #
Mu Ko Lanta National Park is on the southern tip of Ko Lanta Yai and is easiest reached from Krabi. Regular minivans and buses run from Krabi town and Krabi Airport to Saladan on Ko Lanta (book through Krabi bus terminal or local operators); the island is connected to the mainland by road across the southern causeway/bridge so you can also drive or take a car ferry depending on route. From Saladan Pier the park area and lighthouse are a short taxi or motorcycle‑taxi ride (typically under 15-20 minutes) from the main village.
Tips for Visiting Mu Ko Lanta National Park #
- Head for the park area at Ko Lanta's southern tip (the national park lighthouse and headland) rather than the busy Saladan ferry area - the lighthouse viewpoint is the park's main attraction and is best late afternoon for golden light.
- Visit late afternoon or early morning to avoid the mid‑day tour groups and to catch the headland at lower visitor levels; weekends and high season (Nov-Feb) are noticeably busier so book any park bungalows or permits in advance.
- If you're island‑hopping, drive or ride the coastal road to the park entrance rather than transferring through Saladan - that route gives quieter beaches and easier parking near the park trails and viewpoint.
