High / low are average daily temperatures (°C). “Feels” reflects how hot or cold it feels, allowing for humidity.
Coast (Mombasa, Diani, Lamu, Malindi)
June ushers in the cool southeast monsoon, bringing drier, breezier conditions and slightly lower humidity; temperatures drop a degree or two, making coastal walks and water sports more comfortable. Sea conditions calm for most days, improving snorkeling visibility around Wasini and Mombasa. This is the beginning of the higher tourist season-book accommodation in Diani or Lamu early and pack a light windbreaker for evenings.
Central Highlands & Nairobi (Nairobi, Naivasha, Nakuru)
June brings drier conditions with distinct cool mornings-Nairobi can feel brisk at dawn under 12-15°C-and afternoons that are pleasantly mild in the high teens to low 20s°C. Daylight is clear, making it a fine month for urban sightseeing and game-viewing in nearby parks. Layers are necessary for early-morning game drives and evenings can be noticeably chilly.
Rift Valley & Maasai Mara (Maasai Mara, Nakuru, Naivasha, Amboseli fringe)
June marks the start of the drier season: grasses shorten, waterholes concentrate animals, and predator sightings increase as wildlife follows shrinking water sources. Temperatures are pleasantly mild in the day but cold at dawn, so layers for pre-dawn drives are important. Wildlife viewing improves through July and lodges return to full service-book well in advance for peak months.
Mount Kenya & Aberdares (Nanyuki, Mount Kenya, Aberdare Range)
June cools considerably with drier conditions that improve access to higher tracks-early mornings are frosty and daytime sun is crisp, making this an excellent month for mountaineering logistics. Summit attempts become more reliable as paths firm up and visibility improves. Pack thermal layers for pre-dawn starts and make bookings early; nights at high camps will be near-freezing.
Lake Victoria & Western Kenya (Kisumu, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Siaya)
June dries out substantially with clearer skies and cooler mornings-Kisumu and surrounding towns become pleasant for walking and cultural visits. The reduced mosquito nuisance improves comfort for evenings and boat tours operate more reliably. Pack a light jacket for early mornings and consider visiting the nearby Ruma National Park or Ndere Island when waters calm.
Northern & Arid North (Marsabit, Turkana, Samburu, Isiolo)
June cools in the north at night but days remain hot and dry as the southeast monsoon reduces rainfall-this makes for generally safer overland travel and easier access to remote attractions. Samburu and Buffalo Springs become more predictable for wildlife sightings as animals concentrate by permanent rivers. Bring layered clothing for temperature swings from hot afternoons to chilly mornings.
