How to Get to Kalkara
Kalkara lies on the Grand Harbour across from Valletta and is easy to reach from Malta International Airport (MLA). The island has no trains; buses and harbour boats/water taxis provide the simplest onward connections.
Malta International Airport (MLA): Malta’s single international airport at Luqa is the entry point for Kalkara. From MLA take a taxi to Kalkara (about 15-20 minutes) costing roughly €20-€30; public bus from the airport to Valletta costs €2.00 (single fare) and the onward bus from Valletta to Kalkara is a short hop (~10 minutes, €2.00) depending on the route and time of day.
Train: Malta has no heavy-rail network.
Bus: Malta Public Transport runs frequent services between Valletta and the Cottonera towns (Kalkara, Vittoriosa/Birgu). From Valletta the bus to Kalkara/Vittoriosa takes around 10-15 minutes and costs around €2.00 per trip; buses from the airport to Valletta also cost €2.00. Water taxis and scheduled harbour ferry services can connect Valletta and the Three Cities at variable prices (water taxis more expensive than buses).

It’s well connected to the rest of Malta by public bus services and taxis; buses are the cheapest option for short hops.
