Hopkins Travel Guide
City Garifuna coastal village and fishing community, Belize
Garifuna drums preside over Hopkins’ beachfront shacks and palm-thatched restaurants. Visitors come for drumming nights, cassava bread and seafood, quick boat rides to South Water Caye, and low-key snorkeling off the Belize Barrier Reef.
Why Visit Hopkins? #
Hopkins Village is a living center of Garifuna culture, where pounding drumming and punta music spill from beachside bars. Food is a major draw - hudut (a coconut fish stew) and cassava bread link meals to community traditions. Close access to the Belize Barrier Reef and nearby cayes turns Hopkins into a base for snorkeling and fishing as well as immersive cultural stays rather than a standard beach resort.
