Five Blues Lake National Park National Park

Five Blues Lake National Park is a small protected area in the Cayo District of inland Belize that conserves a cluster of karst sinkhole lakes and surrounding tropical forest. The park is notable for its clear blue sinkhole lake at the heart of the reserve and the karst landscape that created the lakes.

The site offers short walking trails, picnic areas and designated swimming spots at the main lake; the water remains notably clear and blue compared with surrounding waterways. Wildlife and birdwatching opportunities are present in the forested areas, though facilities are limited and visits are generally short day trips.

The area was set aside to protect its distinctive karst lakes and the adjoining forest habitat and is managed for conservation and low-impact recreation. Over time the site has remained relatively undeveloped to preserve water quality and forest cover.

The park sits in the foothills of Belize’s interior within the Cayo District, inland from the Caribbean coast and surrounded by mixed broadleaf tropical forest and limestone terrain. The nearest larger towns are in the Cayo region; access requires local roads from the district’s main settlements.

• Avoid long weekends and Belizean national holidays if you want fewer local visitors; week-days are quieter and make boat or trail access easier.
