How to Get to Hoima
Hoima is reachable either by a long road journey from Entebbe/Kampala or by limited domestic flights into the regional Hoima airfield. Coaches are the standard budget option; domestic flights are limited and should be confirmed in advance.
Entebbe International Airport (EBB): Uganda’s main international airport and the usual gateway for Hoima. Road transfer from Entebbe (or from Kampala) to Hoima is lengthy - typically 5-7 hours by car or coach depending on route and stops; private transfers cost significantly more than bus.
Hoima Airport (HOA) / Hoima airfield: A regional airstrip/airport has been developed near Hoima for some domestic and charter operations; schedules are limited and operators vary, so check availability before planning to fly directly into Hoima.
Train: There is no regular passenger rail service serving Hoima from Kampala as of recent years; rail is not a practical option for this route.
Bus / coach: Regular long-distance coaches and minibuses connect Kampala (and Entebbe) with Hoima. Road coaches typically take 5-8 hours depending on stops and road conditions; expect fares in the range of UGX 30,000-70,000 on commercial services (approximate and subject to operator).
How to Get Around Hoima #
Hoima’s town centre is walkable for short trips, but most residents and visitors use motorcycle taxis (boda‑bodas) and minibuses for local travel. Larger buses and shared taxis connect Hoima with Kampala and other regional centres. Boda‑boda fares vary by distance-always agree on a price up front. Allow extra time for road travel, especially during peak hours or market days.
