How to Get to Herceg Novi

Herceg Novi sits at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor and is reached most easily via Tivat or Dubrovnik airports, followed by a bus or taxi along the coastal road. There is no rail access - buses and private transfers are the main public options.

By Air

Tivat Airport (TIV): Tivat is the closest airport for Herceg Novi (roughly 20-35 km depending on route). From TIV you can take a taxi or private transfer (typically €25-€45, 30-50 minutes) or use regional bus connections that link Tivat with Herceg Novi via Kotor and the bay.

Dubrovnik Airport (DBV): Dubrovnik across the border in Croatia is a common gateway; cross-border shuttle buses or private transfers take about 30-90 minutes depending on border formalities (prices vary; expect transfers from €20-€60). Podgorica (TGD) is farther inland and also an option with longer transfer times.

By Train & Bus

Train: Herceg Novi is not on Montenegro’s railway network.

Bus: Herceg Novi has a bus station (Autobuska stanica Herceg Novi) with services to Kotor, Tivat, Dubrovnik and inland towns. Local buses and regional coaches are the primary public transport; expect journey times from nearby airports and towns to vary from 30 minutes (from Kotor/Tivat area) to 1-2 hours from farther hubs.

Herceg Novi’s seafront, Old Town and main promenades are pleasant to walk, with many sights reachable on foot. Local buses and seasonal ferries connect to nearby coastal towns; taxis and car rentals are common for flexible exploration.
