How to Get Around Cetinje#
Cetinje is compact and best explored on foot once you arrive; for reaching it, regional buses and taxis from Tivat or Podgorica airports are the normal options. A hire car helps if you plan excursions into Lovćen National Park.
- Bus (€1-€6) - Cetinje’s bus station links the town with Podgorica, Kotor and the coast. Buses are frequent enough for day trips and are the cheapest public option; timetables are busiest in the daytime and may thin out in the evening.
- Taxi / Private transfer (€20-€60) - Taxis or booked transfers from Tivat/Podgorica are convenient for door-to-door travel and for visiting dispersed sights like the nearby monasteries. Expect a quicker journey than buses and higher cost, especially from Podgorica if roads are busy.
- Car hire (€30-€70 per day) - A hire car is useful for exploring the mountainous area around Cetinje and the Lovćen National Park. Parking in town is generally easier than in coastal tourist towns, but mountain roads can be narrow and steep.
- Local minibuses / shared taxis (€2-€8) - Shared minibuses and private shuttles operate on popular routes (e.g., Cetinje-Kotor) and can be faster than scheduled buses; they fill up and depart when full. Ask locally for current departure points and prices.
- Walking - Cetinje’s compact centre is very walkable, with main museums, the royal palace and historic streets reachable on foot. Wear comfortable shoes for sloping streets and small squares.
