Mediterranean Coast & Nile Delta (Alexandria, Rosetta, North Coast)

June is warm and buoyed by a steady northerly breeze that makes Alexandria and the North Coast feel tolerable compared with inland heat; daytime highs often sit in the mid to high 20s. Summer festivals draw families to the beaches and coastal resorts, so hotels in popular towns can fill up. Nights stay mild; pack light summer clothes plus a thin layer for breezy evenings on the corniche.

Greater Cairo & the Nile Delta cities (Cairo, Giza, Rosetta, Mansoura)

June signals the start of full summer: daytime highs regularly reach 34-38°C in greater Cairo and humidity along the Delta can make it feel sultrier. Crowds thin at historic sites as many Egyptians travel to cooler coastal resorts; hotels in the city often lower rates but heat can make walking tours draining. Air conditioning is widespread indoors, but bring light clothing and plan strenuous activities for early morning.

Nile Valley & Upper Egypt (Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Edfu)

June is peak heat and the Upper Egypt plains are dry and blazing: daytime temperatures commonly reach 40°C and above, and physical exertion becomes difficult for those not acclimatised. River cruises continue to operate with lower passenger numbers and attractive rates; bring sun-protective clothing and plan to rest in shaded hotel areas during midday. Early mornings are excellent for photography when steam and light produce dramatic temple shots.

Red Sea Coast & Resort Strip (Hurghada, El Gouna, Safaga, Marsa Alam, Sharm el-Sheikh)

June is hot along the Red Sea but usually more tolerable than the Nile Valley because of coastal breezes; daytime highs commonly reach the low to mid-30s. Wind conditions near Dahab and Ras Shaitan create excellent kitesurfing windows, though occasional storms can make offshore trips choppy. Bring light, breathable clothing and drink plenty of water during shore excursions.

Sinai Highlands & Saint Catherine area (Mount Sinai, St. Catherine Monastery, Dahab to Nuweiba)

June is hot in the Sinai lowlands and desert plains, with daytime highs frequently in the low to mid-30s; elevation makes the St. Catherine plateau noticeably cooler during the day. Water-based activities around Dahab remain excellent early and late in the day, and many climbers time sunrise ascents to avoid heat. Bring sun protection and plenty of water for any inland exploration.

Western Desert & Oases (Siwa, Bahariya, Farafra, White Desert, Kharga)

June becomes very hot and dry: temperatures in exposed desert flats often climb into the mid-30s, and shade is precious. Travel between oases is still possible but midday activity becomes tiring; many travellers switch to shorter excursions, morning cultural visits and evening drives to cooler altitudes. Nights are warmer than winter but can still drop enough for a thin blanket in sheltered campsites.
