Mediterranean Coast & Nile Delta (Alexandria, Rosetta, North Coast)
October feels like the best of both worlds - warm, sunny days in the low 20s and cooled evenings that are ideal for walking Alexandria’s old quarters and visiting Rosetta. Rain is still uncommon but the chance of a Mediterranean storm begins to rise late in the month, so keep an eye on forecasts if you plan coastal drives. This month suits visitors who want beachside calm without high-season crowds.
Greater Cairo & the Nile Delta cities (Cairo, Giza, Rosetta, Mansoura)
October offers warm, settled weather with daytime temperatures in the low to mid-20s, perfect for visiting Cairo’s museums, the Pyramids, and nearby Memphis without intense heat. Urban pollen and dust decrease and open-air cafes are lively into the evening. It’s a good month for combined city-and-desert trips - the heat hasn’t yet returned in force and the skies are generally clear.
Nile Valley & Upper Egypt (Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Edfu)
October is comfortable and sunny with daytime temperatures in the mid to high 20s - perfect for extended temple visits, felucca trips and desert photography. The tourist season begins to build, but it’s less crowded than midwinter; favorable light makes this one of the best months for exploring Luxor’s valley and Aswan’s islands. Pack layers for cooler dawn starts but bring summer shirts for daytime warmth.
Red Sea Coast & Resort Strip (Hurghada, El Gouna, Safaga, Marsa Alam, Sharm el-Sheikh)
October is warm and dry with near-perfect conditions for diving and snorkeling; daytime highs fall into the mid to high 20s and sea-surface temperatures remain pleasant. This month sees the return of many international charter flights and a jump in tourist activity, but conditions around Sha’ab Rumi and the Ras Mohammed reserve are excellent. Bring protective swimwear and a light sweater for cooler nights.
Sinai Highlands & Saint Catherine area (Mount Sinai, St. Catherine Monastery, Dahab to Nuweiba)
October brings blue skies, warm days, and brisk mountain mornings - an excellent month for extended treks and exploring St. Catherine Monastery without intense heat. Wadis can be dry and easy to traverse, but occasionally autumn storms produce sudden runoff; check local weather if exploring narrow canyons. This is one of the most pleasant months for a multi-activity Sinai trip.
Western Desert & Oases (Siwa, Bahariya, Farafra, White Desert, Kharga)
October is one of the best months to visit the Western Desert: warm, dry days in the low to mid-20s, cool nights perfect for campfires, and steady conditions for 4x4 circuits connecting Farafra, Bahariya and Siwa. Tourist services and guided excursions run fully and the light is superb for landscape photography. Still bring layers for chilly nights and a windproof jacket for occasional gusts.
