Mediterranean Coast & Nile Delta (Alexandria, Rosetta, North Coast)

By April the coastline starts to feel springlike: daytime temperatures climb into the high teens or low 20s and wildflowers dot the Delta’s irrigation channels. Warm sunny afternoons are pleasant for a drive along the North Coast or for visiting Rosetta’s Ottoman architecture, though occasional dusty gusts still occur. It’s a shoulder season for tourism - fewer crowds and better hotel rates - but evenings can be cool so a light sweater is useful.

Greater Cairo & the Nile Delta cities (Cairo, Giza, Rosetta, Mansoura)

April brings warm, sunny days that are ideal for Nile-side cafés and exploring open-air markets - temperatures commonly reach the mid-20s. Tourist numbers increase over the month, especially around religious holidays, so book guides and tickets early if you plan to visit the Citadel or the Egyptian Museum. Nights remain mild but a light jumper is handy after sunset.

Nile Valley & Upper Egypt (Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Edfu)

April is hot and increasingly dry: Luxor and Aswan push into the low to mid-30s, and the desert landscape takes on a sun-bleached look. River cruises are still comfortable thanks to shaded decks and nightly stops, but trekking in the desert or extended motorbike trips become taxing. Visit early in the day and rest mid-afternoon; evening Nile promenades are pleasant and lesser crowded after the spring break rush.

Red Sea Coast & Resort Strip (Hurghada, El Gouna, Safaga, Marsa Alam, Sharm el-Sheikh)

In April the Red Sea resorts feel summery: daytime highs commonly reach the high 20s and the clear water is warm enough for long snorkeling sessions without a rash guard. Popular dive sites are busy on weekends, while weekdays remain relaxed - it’s a great time for liveaboard trips before summer heat peaks. Lightweight clothing, reef-safe sunscreen and a hat are essential for long days on deck.

Sinai Highlands & Saint Catherine area (Mount Sinai, St. Catherine Monastery, Dahab to Nuweiba)

April in the mountains is drier and sunnier; daytime temperatures on lower slopes climb into the high teens and low 20s while nights remain cool. The pilgrimage routes to Moses’ Mountain become dust-free and trekking is comfortable for most fit walkers, though the khamsin dust may affect visibility on some days. Coastal resorts provide warm-water snorkeling as the sea warms.

Western Desert & Oases (Siwa, Bahariya, Farafra, White Desert, Kharga)

April is noticeably hotter by midday, with temperatures often in the high 20s and strong sun on the exposed desert surfaces; evenings remain comfortable for campfires. Sand storms from the khamsin can be severe and short-lived, so watch forecasts if you plan to cross open dunes between oases. Hydration and sun protection are vital for archaeological site visits in Bahariya and Kharga.
