The Dângrêk Mountains form an east-west ridgeline along the modern border between northern Cambodia and Thailand, consisting largely of sandstone plateaus and escarpments. The range creates a distinct northern boundary to Cambodia’s lowlands and includes steep cliffs and seasonal streams.
Tips for Visiting Dângrêk Mountains #
- Plan visits in the dry season (roughly November-April): roads and tracks across the Dângrêk range can become difficult or impassable in the rains, and visibility from the escarpments is generally better in dry months.
- Focus on the northern escarpment if your aim is cultural sites-Preah Vihear and related ruins sit on the range's limestone rim and are the most visited points of interest; many travelers miss smaller cliff-edge viewpoints and secondary Khmer ruins if they stick only to main temples.
