Caribbean Coast (Cartagena, Santa Marta, Barranquilla, Rosario Islands)

October can be unsettled with wide swings between bright sunlight and passing tropical downpours; humidity is high and the sea can be choppy, though major storms rarely make landfall directly in Colombia. This is outside the core tourist season, so you’ll find good deals but must accept more weather-related unpredictability. Pack a waterproof daypack and keep flexible plans for island visits.

Pacific Coast & Chocó (Nuquí, Bahía Solano, Quibdó)

October is still within the heavy-rain period but remains prime for whale watching before the season winds down; marine trips can be exhilarating when seas cooperate. Inland trails are slippery and some secondary air services change schedules regularly, so allow slack in travel plans. The incredible rainforest humidity and near-constant green make it unforgettable for wildlife enthusiasts despite logistical challenges.
