How to Get to Claxton Bay

Claxton Bay is reached by road from the main Trinidad airport (Piarco International, POS); Tobago's ANR Robinson (TAB) is an option only if you plan a multi-leg transfer. The town has no rail links - local travel uses buses, PTSC services and shared maxi-taxis.

By Air

Piarco International Airport (POS): Piarco is the main international airport for Trinidad (near Port of Spain). From Piarco you can take a metered taxi or prebooked transfer to Claxton Bay; drive time is roughly 40-60 minutes depending on traffic. Expect taxi fares around TT$200-400; private transfers and car hires cost more.

ANR Robinson International (TAB): This airport serves Tobago; if you fly into TAB you must transfer to Trinidad (by air or ferry) to reach Claxton Bay. Flights into TAB land on Tobago - from there a transfer back to Trinidad (flight or ferry to Port of Spain/Scarborough then road transport) will add several hours and additional cost.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no passenger rail service connecting Piarco or Port of Spain to Claxton Bay - Trinidad’s public transport is road-based.

Bus / Maxi taxis: PTSC buses and private shared “maxi” taxis run along the North-South corridor (Port of Spain ↔ San Fernando/Couva). From Port of Spain expect a 40-60 minute trip to Claxton Bay/Couva depending on route and traffic. Fares vary by service and distance (budget TT$10-40); private taxis are faster but cost more.
