Siem Reap & Northwest (Angkor, Battambang)

By late February the heat begins to build and afternoons feel noticeably warmer around Siem Reap, often hitting the low 30s with dry air. This is prime time for Angkor photography because skies are mostly clear and dust levels moderate; markets and boat operators are fully functioning. Carry sunscreen and stay hydrated between temple visits - early starts are still the best way to avoid heat and crowds.

Tonle Sap & Central Plains (Phnom Penh, Tonle Sap Lake, Kampong Thom)

A cool, dry pattern continues through February, and Phnom Penh’s riverfront feels comfortable for daytime strolls and evening markets. Tonle Sap remains relatively low but the air holds more dust as farmers prepare fields; the Prey Veng and Kampong Thom provinces start to show early greening in irrigated areas. Pack light layers and sunscreen, and book any Mekong cruises now before the heat intensifies.

Southern Coast & Islands (Sihanoukville, Koh Rong, Koh Rong Samloem, Kep)

Clear, dry conditions in February make snorkeling off Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem delightful; water temps are warm and currents mild. Kep’s crab shacks are lively and the seaside boardwalk is pleasant late in the afternoon; visibility for dive trips is often at its seasonal best. Bring light layers for cooler sea breezes at night and expect more booked-out bungalows as domestic tourism picks up.

Cardamom Mountains & Southwest (Koh Kong, Cardamom range, Bokor, Botum Sakor)

February remains dry and pleasantly warm in lowland Koh Kong, while higher trails in the Cardamom range keep cool mornings and moderate afternoons. Rivers are low enough for kayaking on calmer stretches and coastal mangrove excursions are easy to schedule. Pack good hiking shoes - trails can be dusty and slippery once the rains return later in the year.

Northeast Uplands (Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri - highlands, waterfalls, ethnic villages)

February stays dry and increasingly warm by midday, but nights remain cool in the uplands - this is a sweet spot for camping and hill treks. Road surfaces are generally sound and boat trips on rivers like the Srepok are accessible. Expect clearer skies for long-range views and photographic light; carry a sun hat and insect repellent for forest edges.
