Minsk & Central Lowlands

Late summer weather is warm but starts to ease, with daytime temperatures usually 18-24°C and cooler nights returning. The fields around Minsk turn golden; it’s a pleasant time for cycling or boat trips on the Svislach and for visiting Mir Castle without midsummer crowds. Afternoon showers still occur but are less persistent than in July, and the city’s cultural calendar remains busy into August.

Brest & Southwestern Belovezhskaya Pushcha

Early autumn displays a clear change: mornings are cool and misty with daytime temperatures 10-15°C, and the forest colours begin to deepen by late September. This is a favourite time for photographers at Belovezhskaya Pushcha as oaks and beeches turn, insect numbers decline, and trails are quieter - do bring waterproof shoes for leaf-slick paths. Accommodation is easier to find than midsummer, making it a good time for multi-day wildlife safaris.

Grodno & Neman River Region (Northwest)

Early autumn brings clear, crisp days and temperatures around 10-15°C, with forests along the Neman turning a patchwork of gold. Canoe trips are especially appealing as low water and calm weather let you navigate meanders near Slonim; bring layered clothing for cool mornings. Tourist numbers thin compared with summer, giving quieter access to riverside cafés and manor houses.

Vitebsk & Northern Lakes (Braslav, Narach areas)

Early autumn is a quiet, scenic time: crisp mornings and cool afternoons around 8-14°C coincide with brilliant leaf colour around the Braslav Lakes. Anglers enjoy calmer waters and quieter marinas, while photographers come for reflected autumn colours at dawn; pack layered clothing for wide temperature swings. Tourist traffic drops, so it’s a good period for finding mid-range lodging at reasonable prices.

Gomel & Southeastern Polesie (Pripyat marshes)

Early autumn sees a swift shift: cool, misty mornings and daytime temperatures around 8-14°C characterise September, and foliage in Polesie develops warm tones. River levels begin to drop from their summer highs, making some boat channels shallower but leaving wide, exposed floodplains ideal for wader-watching; waterproof footwear remains important for marsh edges. Tourist numbers dwindle, offering quiet stays at ecological stations.
