Warmth arrives unevenly: expect a mix of cool, rainy days and sun, with highs often between 10-18°C through May. The city parks green up quickly and the return of open-air cafés in Independence Avenue makes Minsk pleasant; pollen is noticeable for hayfever sufferers. Day trips to Nesvizh and the surrounding manor houses are especially enjoyable before mosquitoes multiply in warmer, wetter lowland wetlands.
May brings warmth and an explosion of green; daytime highs commonly reach 12-18°C with longer, pleasant daylight for hiking in the primeval forest. Wildflowers appear on forest glades and the visibility for bison is good at dawn and dusk; festivals around Brest celebrate the spring harvest. Northwest
May brings comfortably warm weather to the Neman valley with daytime temperatures often 12-18°C and long evenings for riverside cafés. The region’s many small lakes warm up and boat rental opens around Druskininkai-adjacent areas (just over the border); the countryside becomes photogenic with apple and wildflower bloom. Packing a light rain jacket is wise - sudden showers are still common - but the landscape is generally pleasant for cycling and exploration.
Braslav, Narach areas
May delivers warming days that make lake excursions pleasant; highs often reach 12-18°C and forests green rapidly around Vitebsk and Narach. Boat tours begin to operate in earnest, and the towns host early cultural festivals; the scenery at dawn is especially good for photographers. Mosquitoes increase in sheltered bays so pack repellent, and weekend crowds from Minsk start to grow toward the end of the month.
Pripyat marshes
By May the wetlands are greening rapidly and water levels are high; daytime temperatures commonly sit between 12-18°C. This is a spectacular time for rafting and wildlife tours through Pripyatsky National Park as migratory passerines and waders are active; bring binoculars and waterproof outerwear. Insect presence begins to grow, so strong repellent and long sleeves are advisable for evening walks.
