Akhalkalaki is best reached from Tbilisi by road - either by scheduled marshrutka minibuses or car. Rail access exists but passenger timetables can be limited, so verify schedules in advance.

By Air

Tbilisi International Airport (TBS): The main international gateway for most travellers to Akhalkalaki. By road it’s roughly 3.5-5 hours depending on route and traffic; marshrutka minibuses depart from Tbilisi (Didube station area) toward the Javakheti region and take about 4-6 hours. Typical marshrutka fares are around 20-30 GEL.

Batumi Airport (BUS): Batumi is significantly further by road (often 5-7 hours) and less convenient for Akhalkalaki; use only if you have region-specific reasons to arrive there first.

By Train & Bus

Train: Akhalkalaki is on the regional railway network (it is a junction on routes connecting Georgia and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars corridor).
