How to Get to Borjomi#

Borjomi is reached most easily from Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) with onward train or marshrutka connections; Borjomi railway station is on a scenic regional line from Tbilisi. Kutaisi can be used but requires longer ground travel.

By Air

Tbilisi International Airport (TBS): The main airport for reaching Borjomi; from TBS take a taxi to Borjomi (approx. 120-160 GEL, ~2.5 hours) or travel into Tbilisi city and catch a marshrutka or train (see By Train & Bus).

Kutaisi International Airport (KUT): Flights into Kutaisi are an option; from Kutaisi you’ll usually take a bus or shared minibus to Borjomi via Akhaltsikhe or via Tbilisi connections - expect longer overall travel times (3-4+ hours).

By Train & Bus

Train: Borjomi has a small railway station (Borjomi railway station) on the Akhaltsikhe-Tbilisi regional line with picturesque routes; trains run from Tbilisi and take roughly 2-3 hours depending on service.

Bus / Marshrutka: Regular marshrutkas depart Tbilisi (Didube) to Borjomi; journey time about 2-2.5 hours and fares are low. Buses run from regional hubs as well, useful if you arrive via Kutaisi or Batumi with transfers.

How to Get Around Borjomi#

Borjomi is best reached by train for comfort or marshrutka for speed from Tbilisi. Once there, walking and short taxi rides handle most local needs, while a rental car helps explore the wider national-park area.

  • Train (Georgian Railway) (4-12 GEL) - The Tbilisi-Borjomi rail line is scenic and comfortable, with the Borjomi railway station close to the town centre and park. Trains are slower than marshrutkas but offer more space and a relaxed ride - ideal in summer when views matter.
  • Marshrutka / Bus (6-15 GEL) - Frequent marshrutkas run from Didube station in Tbilisi and are the quickest budget option. Buses and coaches also operate from regional centres; pick a coach for more luggage room on longer runs. Tickets bought at station counters or from drivers.
  • Taxi (5-120 GEL) - Useful for direct transfers from the airport or for short trips within the Borjomi municipal area. Taxis are easy to find near the park and springs; agree a fare before starting longer trips to nearby sites.
  • Car hire (60-130 GEL/day) - Renting a car makes exploring surrounding protected areas and small villages straightforward. Local roads into the national park and valleys are generally passable; GPS and winter tyres are recommended in cold months.
  • Local minibuses (1-4 GEL) - Local minibuses connect Borjomi with nearby villages and attractions. They are cheap and frequent during daytime but can run on irregular schedules in low season.
  • Walking - Borjomi Park, the mineral springs promenade and the town centre are compact and best explored on foot. Many hiking trails start near town; bring comfortable shoes for uneven paths.
