How to Get to Khashuri#
Khashuri is a central Georgian rail and road hub; trains and marshrutka minibuses from Tbilisi are the most common ways in. The town’s rail station is conveniently located for onward travel into western and northern Georgia.
Tbilisi International Airport (TBS): Tbilisi is the main international gateway for Khashuri. From TBS take a taxi or bus to Tbilisi Didube bus station (≈20-40 min, taxi ~20-30 GEL depending on traffic), then marshrutka minibuses and regular buses run to Khashuri (TBS→Khashuri total ≈1.5-2.5 hours; marshrutka fares commonly 6-12 GEL).
Kutaisi International Airport (KUT): Kutaisi is a secondary option with low-cost flights. From Kutaisi you can catch a shared minibus or bus via Zestafoni to Khashuri (KUT→Khashuri ≈1.5-2.5 hours depending on connections; expect fares in the single-digit-to-low-double-digit GEL range).
Train: Khashuri is a key railway junction on Georgia’s east-west line; Georgian Railway operates trains between Tbilisi and Kutaisi that stop at Khashuri. Travel time Tbilisi-Khashuri by train is typically about 2-2.5 hours with inexpensive fares (economy class fares are usually single-digit GEL).
Bus / Marshrutka: Marshrutka minibuses depart from Tbilisi Didube station and connect directly to Khashuri frequently; buses from various regional hubs also serve the town. Marshrutkas are faster and more frequent than some trains but can be crowded-tickets are sold at the station or on board.
How to Get Around Khashuri#
Because Khashuri sits on Georgia’s main rail corridor, trains and marshrutkas are the best ways to get there from Tbilisi and Kutaisi. For local movement, taxis and walking cover most needs; rent a car only if you plan to explore mountainous backroads.
- Georgian Railway (trains) (3-12 GEL) - Trains are cheap and useful for medium-distance travel across Georgia; Khashuri is on the main Tbilisi-Kutaisi line. Expect basic but functional services; book reserved seats on long-distance routes when possible.
- Marshrutka (minibus) (6-15 GEL) - Marshrutkas depart frequently from Didube and other regional stations; they are fast and frequent but can be crowded and leave only when full. Keep small change and be prepared for less legroom than trains.
- Intercity Bus (8-20 GEL) - Larger buses run between regional centres and stop at Khashuri; they are more comfortable than marshrutkas and a good choice for luggage. Buy tickets at the station or from carrier kiosks before departure.
- Taxi / Shared taxi (10-40 GEL) - Taxis and shared taxis are widely available for short hops and last-mile connections; negotiate fares in advance for intercity trips or insist on the meter in Tbilisi. Shared taxis can be a quick option to surrounding villages.
- Car hire (€25-€60/day) - Renting a car gives flexibility to explore the region (mountain roads can be narrow but passable). International drivers should check insurance and local rules; a 4x4 is useful in winter or for remote areas.
- Walking - Khashuri’s centre is compact and walkable; the railway station is within easy walking distance of the main streets and local services.
