Northern Highlands & Lake Region (Kasama, Mbala, Mansa, Mpulungu)

June is firmly into the dry season: clear skies and crisp, chilly mornings are common on the higher plateaus around Mbala and Kasama. Daytimes warm up pleasantly, and this is one of the best months for walking and overland travel because roads are passable and camps reopen after the rains. Pack a warm jacket for early mornings and evenings - temperatures can fall markedly once the sun sets at altitude.

Copperbelt & Northern Plateau (Ndola, Kitwe, Chingola)

June is in the dry, cool season - skies are mostly clear, dawns are crisp and daytime temperatures are mild. This is a good month for exploring the Copperbelt’s botanical spots and for comfortable urban travel without the dust of the late dry season. Nights can be chilly in rural lodges so pack a sweater or light jacket.

Lusaka Plateau & Central Province (Lusaka, Kafue, Kabwe)

June is cool and dry with clear blue skies - mornings can be quite chilly and there’s a low risk of rain. This is peak season for safaris and cultural trips departing from Lusaka to Kafue and South Luangwa because wildlife concentrates around permanent water. Bring warm clothes for dawn game drives and long-sleeved shirts for sun protection at midday.

South Luangwa & Eastern Lowlands (Mfuwe, Chipata, Lundazi)

June is cool, dry and one of the top months for safaris - clear skies, excellent game concentrations and comfortable daytime temperatures make for long activity days. Walking safaris are in full swing and night drives reveal prolific nocturnal life. Bring layered clothing for cold dawn starts and strong sun protection for mid-day drives.

Livingstone, Lower Zambezi & Southern Riverlands (Livingstone, Lower Zambezi, Siavonga)

June is cooler and dry with clear skies and crisp mornings - perfect for game drives and river safaris where water remains an attractor for wildlife. Livingstone and the Lower Zambezi are in prime safari season: calm days, excellent light and reliable wildlife sightings. Pack layers for cold dawns and sunscreen for warm, sunny afternoons on the river.

Western Province & Barotse Floodplain (Mongu, Barotse/Lozi plains)

June brings more exposed floodplain in most years as the main rainy pulse shifts upstream, opening up temporary tracks while pockets of water remain in oxbows and channels. Mongu becomes more accessible by road and some camps shift from boat operations to land-based game-viewing. Expect cool mornings, muddy shoulders and a mosaic of wet and dry terrain - a flexible itinerary is helpful.
