The Zambales Mountains are a northwest-southeast trending mountain chain on the western side of Luzon in the Philippines, running roughly along the coast of Zambales province. The range includes a mix of volcanic and non-volcanic peaks and forms a prominent upland spine on western Luzon.

The area attracts hikers and climbers to its forested trails and peaks and supports forest biodiversity and watershed functions for adjacent lowland provinces. The range includes volcanic centers and has been shaped by historic eruptions, which have influenced local topography and river systems.

Historically the mountains have been home to indigenous communities and were a barrier to east-west travel; in the late 20th century volcanic activity at Mount Pinatubo produced large-scale change to the surrounding landscapes. Infrastructure and settlements on the coastal plain lie at the feet of the range.

The Zambales Mountains run along western Luzon and form the interior backdrop to coastal provinces on the western seaboard, with transport and population centers on the adjacent lowland plain.

  • Volcanic activity: The range contains volcanic peaks and has been affected by significant eruptions, most notably the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo which lies on its southern margin.
