How to Get to Weligama
Weligama on Sri Lanka's south coast is reached most easily from Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) or the closer Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (HRI). The town is on the Coastal Railway Line (Weligama Railway Station) and is well served by intercity buses and local taxis/tuk‑tuks.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB): The main international gateway for Sri Lanka, about 150-170 km north of Weligama. From CMB you can take a private taxi or prebooked transfer to Weligama (about 3-3.5 hours) - expect roughly LKR 18,000-25,000 for a private car; the journey by road on the expressway is typically 3-4 hours by car or taxi.
Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (HRI): A smaller domestic/international airport on the south-east coast, closer to Weligama. Taxi transfers from HRI to Weligama take around 45-60 minutes and cost roughly LKR 5,000-8,000 (prices vary with availability).
Train: Weligama has its own station, Weligama Railway Station, on Sri Lanka Railways’ Coastal Line (services run through Matara to Colombo).
