This temple sits atop a steep hill about 3km northwest of the town centre. Its main appeal lies in the panoramic views over the surrounding countryside, taking in the Mekong River and Laos, and in the temple’s slightly crooked, gold-capped chedi, which looks almost in danger of toppling over.
The chedi is thought to date from the 16th century and is believed to contain a hair of the Buddha. Just below Wat Phra That Chom Kitti on the hillside stands another temple, Wat Chom Chang, though this one is of no great historical significance.
