Wat Kor Village at a Glance#

About Wat Kor Village#

In the village surrounding Wat Kor, many homes built around the turn of the 20th century are still standing, and still lived in, roughly a century later. Their design is unique to Battambang: known as khor song, these houses feature distinctive two-tiered roofs and owe their longevity to construction from the hardwood of the Pchek tree. Several owners have opened their doors to visitors for a small admission, and signs along the road to Phnom Banan indicate which houses can be entered; some display antique furnishings and tools alongside histories of the home in English.

Just south of Wat Kor, the temple in the village of Kompong Seyma holds sacred boundary stones (seyma) whose powers are believed to protect Battambang. A community-based tourism initiative there offers ox-cart rides through scenic countryside and expansive rice fields.

How to Get to Wat Kor Village#

Access is generally by local road-tuk‑tuk or motorcycle taxi from the nearest town. If traveling from a provincial city, hire transport for the day as public transit routes may not drop visitors close to the temple.

Tips for Visiting Wat Kor Village#

  • Arrive for morning chanting to see the monastery in active use-weekday mornings are quieter than weekend pilgrimage days.
  • Look for local craftsmen selling small religious bronzes nearby; these reflect living devotional practices.
  • Ask a monk (politely) if photography is allowed inside certain sanctuaries; restrictions can be strict.
