How to Get to Torre del Mar#
Torre del Mar is best reached via Málaga Airport and a short bus transfer from Málaga bus station. There is no direct national train to the town, so buses and taxis are the everyday connection for visitors.
Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP): The main airport serving Torre del Mar. From AGP take the airport bus or a taxi to Málaga (María Zambrano) station (bus ~15-25 minutes, tickets ~€3-€5). From Málaga bus station there are direct ALSA/Avanza buses to Torre del Mar - journey time around 40-60 minutes and fares commonly €3-€5.
Granada / Málaga (alternate options): Granada and other Andalusian airports are further away and require longer bus or car transfers; Málaga remains the most practical choice for most international arrivals.
Train: There is no direct national rail line into Torre del Mar; the nearest major rail hub is Málaga María Zambrano. From Málaga you continue by bus or taxi.
Bus: ALSA and local operators run regular services from Málaga to Torre del Mar (and neighboring Vélez-Málaga). Buses are the main public link; the timetable is frequent enough for day trips and fares are low (around €3-€5). Local town buses serve short routes within Torre del Mar.
How to Get Around Torre del Mar#
Public buses from Málaga are the most straightforward public option; renting a car gives greater flexibility to visit nearby villages and beaches. Within town, the promenade and short local buses make walking easy.
- Intercity bus (ALSA / Avanza) (€3-€5) - ALSA and regional coach companies provide direct services between Málaga city and Torre del Mar. Buses are frequent, inexpensive, and the simplest public option - book for high season if you can.
- Taxi (€30-€60) - Taxis are convenient for door-to-door transfers from Málaga airport or Málaga city; useful for late arrivals or groups. Expect a higher fare than the bus but much faster point-to-point.
- Car rental (€25-€60/day) - A rental car is ideal for exploring the Axarquía coast and nearby pueblos blancos. Roads are good and parking in Torre del Mar is generally available, though busier in summer.
- Local bus (€1-€3) - Local buses connect neighborhoods, the promenade and nearby towns. They are cheap and convenient for short journeys; schedules are more limited outside peak season.
- Bike hire (€8-€20/day) - Hiring a bike is pleasant along the seafront promenade and for short coastal rides. Bikes are seasonal and best used on flat stretches by the beach.
- Walking - Torre del Mar is flat and very walkable - the promenade links beaches, cafés and shops. Walking is often the fastest and most pleasant way to get around town.
